Now that we are back home and settled, we've been able to enjoy some of the comforts of home including visiting our favorite local spots. Do you have a favorite local restaurant/bar that you can always rely on for good food and drinks? Here are our favorite local spots in the Monmouth County area. Sometimes it's nice to be back home.
When we used to go on vacation prior to our backpacking trip, all bets were off when it came to what we ate and drank. I'd come back bloated and dehydrated. I might have worked out or gone for a run once or twice but didn't make it an everyday habit. I believe this is normal for most people. Most people go on vacation to relax and indulge themselves because normally they can't on a regular basis. One comment I kept on hearing on my return back, especially from my fellow crossfitters, was "Wow, you're not fat!". Well, thank goodness for that. Even though I'm not where I was physically before I left I did not let my body go completely to the crapper. Let me tell you how.
When we first started to plan our backpacking journey, travel insurance was the last thing on our minds. We were too busy thinking about our passports, visas, leaving our jobs, selling our house and everything else you could think of when you decide to leave the country for 6 months. We still have the mentalities of young millennials who don't really think about going to the doctor until they are coughing up blood. Now having purchased travel insurance I can say it is probably the most important item we purchased for our trip.
Happy St. Patrick's Day! I hope you haven't started drinking yet. In celebration of the holiday I've decided to write about 4 reasons why you should visit the Emerald Isle. I've always wanted to visit Ireland since I was a kid. I blame it on my mom's previous boss who was from Ireland; my mom would always bring me to her job after school and I use to love the way her boss spoke, telling us about her homeland. Finally being able to visit Ireland was an amazing experience and one I would like to repeat. So grab a Guinness and enjoy the read! Be sure to read until the end for a great tip!
We are back home with a lot less money but much richer than we left. No regrets. We'd do it all over again. We are always asked about our favorite destination but the next most popular question is: How did we afford to go away for 6 months? How did we travel the world and not resort to asking our family and friends for money or even cutting our trip short? Well here are a few tips on how we saved money and were able to make the most of our backpacking adventure.
