When we started to plan our 6 month backpacking trip last year we knew we had to hop on a train to travel around Europe. Every travel blog we read, people we have talked to, all of them have said that traveling Europe by train is a must. Who are we to argue? We purchased our Eurail passes from Rail Europe and set off to explore the European continent.
Hiking the Inca Trail in Peru was one of the best experiences of our 6 month backpacking trip last year. Actually it is one of the best experiences of my life. As I hiked the trail I would just look around and be amazed by what I saw. Beautiful snow-capped mountains, lush jungle, massive flowing rivers and waterfalls. Never in my life did I think I would ever step foot in this part of the world, yet here I was.
Before we set off on this adventure I did read about some experiences from other travelers who set off on this trek. I read about their experiences but I didn’t come across anyone who actually prepared you for this 4 day, 3 night journey. While the tour company does a decent job of informing you of the necessities, it does leave out some things that could make your hike more comfortable and enjoyable.

When we first set off on our 6 month journey we knew that staying in hostels was a must if we wanted to stay within our budget. Like most Americans, what came to mind when thinking of hostels were drunk travelers, dirty rooms/bathrooms, being drugged and having our kidneys taken (thanks to the movie 'Hostel'). What we didn't expect were great amenities, free breakfast, clean rooms and bathrooms, etc. We loved staying in hostels so much so that it was our preferred accommodation even when we could afford a regular hotel room. But there are still some things you may have deal with, so here are our top 10 tips to make your next hostel stay more comfortable!
