We are back home with a lot less money but much richer than we left. No regrets. We'd do it all over again. We are always asked about our favorite destination but the next most popular question is: How did we afford to go away for 6 months? How did we travel the world and not resort to asking our family and friends for money or even cutting our trip short? Well here are a few tips on how we saved money and were able to make the most of our backpacking adventure.
For most travelers, especially those on a budget, staying in hostels is the way to go. While not very popular in the United States, people overseas think about staying in hostels like Americans think about staying in hotels. For good reasons too.
Along with accommodations, travelers usually spend the most on getting from place to place. Our backpacking journey could've been called "Planes, trains and automobiles" as we traveled on every mode of transportation available. Some were better than others (the overnight train in India has forever made an impression on me) and sometimes you have to get creative. We'll tell you about the best ways to save money on travel.

Here are a couple of other money saving tips for your next trip. These will especially come in handy for your longer journeys.
So there you have it. Our tips for saving money while on the road. I know if we didn't implement these tips we would've went way over budget and would possibly have had to come back earlier. Using these tips allowed us to splurge on things like hiking the Inca Trail, bathing elephants in Thailand, a fancy buffet brunch in Hong Kong and flying our mothers to Puerto Rico to celebrate the conclusion of our trip. We hope you will be able to utilize these tips to the fullest in order to realize your dreams of traveling to your favorite destination.
Is there anything we missed? Any tips you may have that you'd like to share? Write in the comments and let us know. Let us know if any of these tips have helped you out! We'd love to hear from you. As always feel free to share our post on Facebook with your friends. We hope we're able to inspire them as well. Happy Travels!
