On my recent trip to Las Vegas, Nevada I decided to travel with solely a carry-on bag. I’ve always been an over-packer. Always packing for those what-if moments that never happen. After traveling for 6 months around the globe and realizing what you actually need to bring with you and that you can buy things you may need overseas, I decided to do the rest of my travels with a carry-on bag.
So finding the perfect bag was a challenge. I did lots of research and finally settled on a SOVRN Republic 32L Drifter Convertible backpack. It had a lot of features I was looking for and it had style. The canvas material (while heavy) adds that modern traveler look as does the patch of leather on the back. The bag does have some drawbacks but it worked perfectly for this trip. I was able to pack for the 4 days in Las Vegas, including an extra pair of shoes!
I must say the freedom I felt just printing out my boarding pass, going through security and arriving at my gate was liberating. It was one of the things I loved about traveling on the railways in Europe. They don’t even have security. All you have to do is arrive before your train leaves (of course with your ticket in hand). Getting off the plane was even better! No waiting for my luggage to be thrown onto the carousel and wondering “Is that my bag?”, “Nope”, “Oh there it goes!”, then have a stranger grab it. No, No. Grab your bag and exit the building. I felt like a new man!
Essential Carry-On Items
Of course you have to bring your clothes so work that out. I was able to fit 4 days of clothes on my person and in my 32L bag. If I can do it, you surely can.
